What Gift Can You Give Senior Parents Who Have Everything and Need Nothing?

Whether it’s birthdays, Mother’s or Father’s Day, Christmas, or any other celebration, if you have a senior parent, you are most likely wondering what gift you can give them…either their home is so full they haven’t got room for anything more, they don’t need anything more, or they are trying to downsize. And yet, you still want to remember them on these special days and give them a meaningful gift.

Many of our senior’s homes have so much “stuff”, including a collection of wonderful gifts given throughout their life, many of which they’re not sure what to do with…Most of these sentimental items are not used, but stored as keepsakes. I’ve had many people ask me for my thoughts on gifts, that their senior parents will appreciate and use, so…

Here are my 3 ideas on what to give a senior parent:

• Time.  Your time doesn’t cost anything, and yet it is the most valuable gift you can give. You don’t have to do anything elaborate. Whether you have dinner together, a concert or a visit, they will really appreciate it.

Spend time with your parents, treat them well. Because one day, when you look up from your phone they won’t be there anymore.

  Another great gift is a digital photo frame with easy uploading photos via email. This is great for families to send pictures directly to the frame throughout the year without having to print and mail them. Imagine the fun when they discover that someone has sent them a new picture on their photo frame. Our great grandmother, in South Carolina, got one a couple of years ago and she loves it, and loves receiving our pictures!

• Gift certificates or gift cards can be so versatile and so appreciated, you can give:
  • Gift certificates for their favorite restaurant, for an Uber or taxi ride.
  • Home made gift certificates for a homemade meal, lawn mowing, house cleaning, movie and popcorn at home together,or any other thing you could do with them or for them.
  • A gift certificate for a manicure or pedicure…even Grandpa will enjoy this…it could even be a spa day in the comfort of their own home, provided by you.
  • Give them a gift certificate to their favorite sports event, play, or whatever they love…they’ll love it even more if they get to do it with you.
  • A gift card for decluttering and organizing their home. We love to spend time with our clients going through their home and helping them sort and decide what to keep, donate and throw away.  It provides them with an organized space and peace of mind that their home is filled with items they love and use!
